Aspen

Two seasons, one house that never misses

Caretakers, chefs, and estate teams for Aspen's dual-season rhythm — and the quiet months when the house still needs someone.

Aspen runs on two seasons. Winter from mid-December through the end of the ski year, when the house on Red Mountain fills with family and guests and the kitchen never quite closes. Then summer — June through Labor Day — which many families now consider the better season: the Music Festival, Ideas, hiking out the back door. Between them sit the shoulder months, when the town exhales and the house waits.

That rhythm makes the year-round caretaker the most important hire in the valley. Someone local who watches the property through mud season, manages snow removal and the contractors you can never quite schedule, and has the house warm, plowed, and provisioned before your plane lands. Domestic couples do this work beautifully here, and the good ones are known up and down the valley.

The hard truth of Aspen staffing is housing. Local candidates are scarce and expensive to house; a property with staff quarters or an ADU can hire from anywhere. Altitude, mountain driving, and the seasonal surge of guests round out what we screen for — this is not a market where a city résumé transfers automatically.

Questions

Staffing in Aspen, answered.

What does the house need during the months we're not there?
A caretaker, at minimum. Mountain properties punish neglect — freeze events, roof loads, wildlife, and the contractor work that can only happen in shoulder season. A year-round caretaker or domestic couple keeps the systems run, the driveway plowed, and the projects moving, then has the house genuinely ready when you arrive. It is the hire that makes every visit feel effortless.
How does staff housing work in Aspen?
It's the central constraint. Local housing is scarce enough that many otherwise ideal candidates simply cannot live within reach of the property. If your home has staff quarters, a caretaker unit, or an ADU, the search opens to strong candidates from anywhere — and they tend to stay longer. If it doesn't, we build the search around the valley's existing talent, honestly and early.
Can our staff from other homes cover the Aspen house?
For visits, often yes — many families travel with a chef or housekeeper for holiday weeks. What can't travel is the local knowledge: snow management, altitude cooking, the valley's contractors and their waitlists. The structure that works is usually a local caretaker holding the property year-round, with your traveling team layering in when the family is in residence.
