San Francisco & the Bay Area

Quiet households, built to stay quiet

Staffing the deliberately low-key households of San Francisco and the Peninsula — where privacy runs deep and the right first hire matters most.

Wealth in the Bay Area tends to whisper. A house behind a hedge in Atherton, a shingled place in Pacific Heights, acreage in Woodside with horses nobody mentions — households here are often substantial and deliberately unshowy. Staff have to match that register: capable, unimpressed, and comfortable working for families who may be younger than they are.

Many of the families we serve here are staffing for the first time. A company event changes a household's scale overnight, and suddenly there are two properties, a Tahoe place, security questions, and no one running any of it. The first hire is usually the hardest and the most consequential — often a household manager or family assistant who builds the operation around how you actually live, not how staffing manuals say you should.

The geography spreads households out. A city residence in Pacific Heights, a Peninsula base near schools and offices, weekends in Marin or Tahoe — and staff who either travel across that map or anchor one point of it. Fog, school calendars, and commute corridors shape these searches more than seasons do, and a candidate's position on the 280 or the bridge matters more than most families expect at the start.

Questions

Staffing in San Francisco & the Bay Area, answered.

We've never had household staff. Where do we start?
With a conversation about how you live, not a job description. Most Bay Area families start with one flexible hire — a household manager or family assistant — who takes over the logistics consuming your evenings, then helps define what else the household truly needs. We'd rather get the first hire right than staff you quickly. The structure can grow from there.
How do you handle confidentiality around a liquidity event or company matters?
It's built into the search. We don't name the family until a meeting is set, we reference candidates through households we know rather than lists they provide, and we look specifically for people with a track record of working near sensitive information without absorbing an interest in it. NDAs are standard here, and we coordinate them as part of the offer.
Can one team cover the city, the Peninsula, and Tahoe?
Sometimes. A traveling household manager with a local housekeeper at each property is a common structure; a dedicated Tahoe caretaker is worth adding once the house sees real winter use. The honest answer depends on how often you're in each place. We'll map the year with you before recommending a structure, because the wrong one is expensive to unwind.
