Miami

A household that keeps pace with Miami

Waterfront homes, new arrivals, and year-round households — staffing for the families building their lives in Miami.

Miami households run year-round and outdoors. Waterfront properties on Indian Creek, the Sunset Islands, or Gables Estates come with docks, boats, pools, and landscaping that never goes dormant — plus salt air working on everything. The house needs people who understand that a South Florida property is a living system, not a set of rooms to be cleaned.

Many of the families we work with here arrived recently — from New York, from abroad, from the West Coast — and are building a household from zero in a city they're still learning. That's a different search: you need people who know Miami's vendors, its rhythms, its neighborhoods, and can construct the operation around you rather than inherit one.

This is also a genuinely bilingual market. Households often run in English and Spanish, sometimes Portuguese, and the strongest candidates move easily between them — with vendors, with contractors, with schools. Summer brings heat, family travel, and hurricane season; the well-run households have a plan for all three before June, and staff who have executed one before. It's a rhythm unlike the Northeast's, and it rewards people who know it.

Questions

Staffing in Miami, answered.

We just relocated to Miami. How do we build a household from nothing?
Start with the anchor hire — usually a household manager or executive housekeeper who knows this market and can help stand up the rest: vendors, systems, schedules, and eventually the team around them. Building in the right order matters more than building quickly. We've done this with many arriving families, and the first hire sets the tone for everything after.
Do we need bilingual staff?
It helps more here than almost anywhere. Much of Miami's daily life — vendors, contractors, deliveries, schools — moves between English and Spanish, and a household manager who works in both simply gets more done. It isn't a requirement for every role, and we never treat it as a filter for its own sake. We staff to how your household actually operates.
Who handles the property during hurricane season?
Your senior household staff should own a written plan: shutters or glass protocols, generator service, dock and vessel preparation, and clear decisions about who secures the property and when. We look specifically for estate and household managers who have run South Florida properties through storm seasons — it's experience you don't want someone acquiring on your house.
